Football Field Goal Posts Built for Game Day

The right football field goal post turns an ordinary end zone into a stage built for decisive moments. At Hamilton Home Fitness, we supply commercial-grade football field goal posts engineered for daily use, true alignment, and seasons of reliable performance—not weeks. Whether you run a high school program, a university complex, a municipal stadium, or a private training facility, these systems deliver the rigidity, clean sightlines, and safety that kickers, athletes, and officials depend on.

Every goal post we source and install is matched to your exact level of play and field conditions. From NFHS high school widths to NCAA and pro-style configurations, you get regulation-correct geometry, certified installation from our Tennessee headquarters, and nationwide delivery handled by people who plan the entire project—not just drop a crate at the curb.

Choose the right goalpost.

The right goal post comes down to three things: your level of play, how the field is used, and how you plan to install it. Get those right, and the rest—pole diameter, offset, and finish—falls into place.

What are the official dimensions of a football field goal post? The crossbar sits 10 feet above the field at every level. Width is set by league, and upright height is driven by visibility and code.

Are NFL, NCAA, and high school goal post widths the same? No. High school (NFHS) posts are 23 feet 4 inches wide inside-to-inside, while NCAA college and NFL posts are narrower at 18 feet 6 inches.

How tall is a football goal post? The crossbar is 10 feet high, and NFHS requires uprights to extend at least 10 feet above it. Most high school fields use 20-foot uprights for clear judging on long attempts, while college posts rise to about 30 feet and pro-style posts to 35 feet.

Use this comparison to match a system to your program:

College (NCAA)18 ft 6 in10 ftup to 30 ft total5-9/16 or 6-5/8 in

Should I choose steel or aluminum goal posts? Choose heavy-gauge steel when maximum rigidity and long-term value matter most for high-traffic varsity fields; choose aluminum when lighter weight and natural corrosion resistance lead your priorities. Both are built for years of outdoor use and finished to resist UV and moisture.

Types, offset & installation

Match the configuration to how often the field is used and whether the goals must come down. Most buyers choose one of four setups.

  • Gooseneck offset posts for permanent, stadium-grade installs
  • Ground-sleeve systems for semi-permanent, removable use
  • Combination football and soccer goals for shared, multi-use fields
  • Practice and portable models for training and secondary fields

How much offset does a goal post need? Offset is the distance the gooseneck sets the uprights back from the crossbar plane, keeping the posts clear of live play. High-school 4-1/2-inch systems commonly run a 5-foot offset, while 5-9/16-inch collegiate-style systems use a full 6-foot offset for added safety and sightline clearance. For varsity fields, a proven starting point is a semi-permanent 5-9/16-inch steel system at the 23-foot-4-inch high school width with a 6-foot offset—see this high school steel football goal post.

Can football and soccer share a combination goal post? Yes. Combination and deep-setback designs let one field serve football, soccer, and lacrosse, which protects budgets and maximizes use on tight campuses. Explore our Jaypro soccer goal packages when planning a true multi-sport layout.

How much concrete do I need to install a goal post? Footing depth and concrete volume depend on the model, pole diameter, and soil profile. We provide footing specifications and site plans by model so your contractor can pour with confidence and avoid costly rework—part of the turnkey planning behind every Jaypro Sports goal post system we install.

Safety, padding & compliance

Safety and compliance are built in, not bolted on afterward. Regulation geometry, high-visibility finishes, and protective padding keep play fair and athletes protected.

Is padding required on a football field goal post? Base padding is strongly recommended for player safety and is often required under local and league rules. We include padding guidance with every system and offer field-level pads in standard and custom colors.

Are these goal posts NFHS and NCAA compliant? Yes—configurations are available to meet prevailing NFHS, NCAA, and pro-style specifications, with documentation to support purchasing, insurance, and inspection requirements. Our certified crews verify width, height, and offset on-site before handover.
